Momentum One Zero brings together three of Queen’s University Belfast’s leading research institutions under the auspices of the Belfast Region City Deal—a £1 billion initiative to drive innovation and growth in Northern Ireland. We equipped them with a brand with the features to convey their complex work clearly and effectively.

Context

The Belfast Region City Deal is an ambitious £1 billion project to drive innovation and growth. Three research centres at Queens University Belfast are crucial to the Belfast Region City Deal’s goals:

  • iREACH Health ensures cutting-edge health innovations have real-world impact.
  • Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMIC) focuses on commercialising advanced manufacturing and engineering research.
  • Global Innovation Institute (GII) leverages technology and data to revolutionise healthcare, food production, financial services, and the urban environment.

Action

We helped this consortium of ground-breaking innovation centres build their new brand. We conducted extensive research and interviews with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to learn about the centres’ work and how they wanted to shape perceptions.

Outcome

We alighted on the name “Momentum One Zero” as a way of animating their brand with the spirit of their work—transforming hard-won scientific and technological breakthroughs into tangible benefits.

The centres’ work might be complex, but their message was simple and needed a simple brand. We developed a pared-back approach that allowed Momentum One Zero’s work and impact to speak for itself.
