Taking time to rhyme

BBC Northern Ireland wanted to develop a series of engaging and educational videos to give parents the tools to support their kids’ communication and language development. We were proud to collaborate with them on a series of heartwarming vignettes that showcase the joy and effectiveness of learning through play.

Some 18% of UK children do not reach expected communication, language, and literacy levels by age five. The effects of this gap in early childhood development can last into adulthood. In response, the BBC launched a campaign to support parents and carers in improving young children’s language skills. We partnered with them to create engaging video resources to support home learning.

We developed a suite of short, heartwarming videos that championed the power of play. Each showed adults, babies, and toddlers interacting through nursery rhymes, songs, and games and featured practical tips to support babies’ communication development.

Our storytelling captured authentic, diverse family homes and real moments, emphasising how to integrate play, song, and rhyme into any routine.

These videos empower parents and carers to participate in their children’s early language and literacy journey.
